Hi, I’m John.
I live on Long Island, I work full time, and I’m always the one asking “what’s going in there?” when a storefront gets papered over. So I built the newsletter I wanted.
What’s Being Built LI is a free Monday email and website about what’s new and coming to Long Island: new restaurants, coffee shops, gyms, salons and shops, plus the homes and projects going in front of the Town Board. It’s independent. No town, developer or chain pays for the news.
How it works
- New spots come from New York State’s daily list of new company filings (data.ny.gov). We pull Nassau and Suffolk, sort by business type, and review the list by hand.
- Coming up comes from published Town of Brookhaven zoning and planning agendas. Islip, Smithtown and Huntington are next.
- Every item links back to a public source.
Our rules
- We say “recently filed,” never “now open,” unless we’ve confirmed it.
- No private homeowners’ names, ever. Street and hamlet only.
- No fake stats, reviews or hype. If we got something wrong, we fix it and say so.
- Sponsors are always labeled “Sponsored” and never change what we cover.
- We never sell your email.
